AND this from Mark Udall

Dear M Dean,

Thank you for contacting me regarding my recent vote (vote #237; S.Amdt. 1618 to S.1390) in favor of an amendment concerning concealed firearm permits. I appreciate your taking the time to express your specific views on this important issue.

This vote involved a fundamental Constitutional right, and thereby required carefully balancing states' and individual interests, especially in light of the U.S. Supreme Court's recent holding that individuals have the right to keep and bear arms under federal law.

During the consideration of this proposal, it was argued that since states have different laws governing concealed firearms, it would have swept away Colorado's concealed firearms law and thereby opened the door to illegal activity and created unsafe conditions for our citizens. These were not trivial concerns, and I considered them carefully.

My final judgment was influenced by our experience in Colorado. Colorado passed a law in 2003 that allows Colorado to recognize out-of-state permits from other states that recognize Colorado's law and only requires permit holders to be at least 21 years old. That's it. There are no additional restrictions. Since this law was passed, Colorado has established reciprocity with 27 states - including some states that have less restrictive guidelines and standards for issuing permits. If there were any data suggesting Colorado's law has resulted in an increase in criminal activity or endangered public safety, I might have been concerned. But there is no such evidence, and, surprisingly, Colorado does not keep data on whether crimes have involved the use of firearms secured with out-of-state concealed-carry permits.

This legislation would not have affected any restrictions related to acquiring a firearm or any other law related to firearms and illegal use. Even if a state has a different concealed-carry law, the amendment would not have blocked any fines or penalties - or enforcement against - anyone who might use their firearm illegally or carelessly. It was further suggested that Colorado should not be required to accept out-state permits by 18-year-olds. But federal law restricts the sale of hand guns to individuals who are at least 21 years of age and also restricts possession in cases of mental instability and a host of other categories. There is an exemption in federal law for 18-year-olds who are on active duty or honorably discharged military personnel or law enforcement officers. States that allow concealed-carry permits for 18-year-olds do so in accordance with this federal exemption.

Balancing all these factors and considering my responsibility to give voice to Colorado's own experience, I voted in favor of this amendment, which failed to gain enough support for final passage, and therefore, was not adopted. Looking forward, I will continue to carefully examine each piece of legislation and ask that you continue to share your thoughts and concerns with me.

I will continue to listen closely to what you and other Coloradans have to say about matters before Congress, the concerns of our communities, and the issues facing Colorado and the nation. My job is not about merely supporting or opposing legislation; it is also about bridging the divide that has paralyzed our nation's politics. IDPA--Rifle Sportsmans Club August 15th 2009

Shooters:
Here we go again...start planning for another great day on the range at the Rifle Sportsmen's Club, Saturday, August 15th for the monthly IDPA match.
At the risk of redundancy...or repeating over and over again...here's the scoop:
  • Match starts at 10:00 am with a brief safety meeting; sign-ups at 9:30 am. Please be on site and signed up before 10:00 am so we can get underway in a timely manner.
  • Cost is $20.00.
  • Three stages are planned along with another run (or stumbling) through the "House of Death." The twisted scenarios will again see if somebody can actually beat the stage.
  • Bring a concealment garment. You most probably will need it.
  • Bring proof of IDPA membership or proof of application to join. (Does not apply to first-time shooters.)
  • Per the rule instituted last month, new or first-time shooters will be required to shoot the Instructional Classification Match. First-time shooters (or others who desire to shoot the Classifier) should contact Char Stuart by Wednesday, August 12th, to reserve a place on her schedule. You can email her at iskater@rof.net or call her at (970) 384-0417. Please do not call her after 8 pm!
  • If you are planning to bring a first-time shooter to the match, please have them contact Char about the Classifier. It will be a big help to her.
Regards,
Ken Andrews

More seek concealed weapons permits

Some states and counties report a surge in applications for concealed weapons permits since the November election. All states but Illinois and Wisconsin allow concealed weapons, but requirements differ.

Paul Helmke, president of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, fears that violent confrontations will increase as more people carry concealed guns. "When someone's carrying a gun around and they're not fully trained, oftentimes they'll use it just because it's there," he says. (what does he know?)

This from Mike Bennet

Thank you for contacting me regarding the Thune-Vitter Amendment to the Defense Authorization Bill. I appreciate hearing from you.

My philosophy on guns is based on my respect for the Second Amendment to our United States Constitution, which ensures the right to keep and bear arms. I also believe that in order to prevent gun-related crime, we need a healthy respect for firearms and vigorous enforcement of our existing federal, state, and local gun laws.

The Thune-Vitter Amendment to the Defense Authorization Fund (S.AMDT.1618 to S.1390) would have allowed citizens who have concealed carry permits from the state in which they reside to carry concealed firearms in another state that grants concealed carry permits, if the individual complies with the laws of the state. While I voted in support of this amendment, S.AMDT.1618 was subjected to a supermajority requirement. It needed 60 votes but it failed 58-39.

My vote in favor of the Thune Amendment was consistent with existing Colorado law. In our state, law-abiding gun owners have the right to apply for and receive a concealed carry permit. Colorado already recognizes the concealed carry permits from a majority of states, and generally grants reciprocity to states that recognize the permits of Colorado gun owners. Any concealed carry permit holder from another state must follow our criminal statutes, and that would have remained the law if the Thune amendment had passed.

I value the input of fellow Coloradans in considering the wide variety of important issues and legislative initiatives that come before the Senate. I hope you will continue to inform me of your thoughts and concerns.

For more information about my priorities as a U.S. Senator, I invite you to visit my website at http://bennet.senate.gov/. Again, thank you for contacting me.

Sincerely,

Michael Bennet

Obama Regulatory Czar's Confirmation Held Up by Hunting Rights Proponent

WASHINGTON -- President Obama's nominee for "regulatory czar" has hit a new snag in his Senate confirmation process -- a "hold" by Texas Sen. John Cornyn, who's says he's not convinced that Harvard professor Cass Sunstein won't push a radical animal rights agenda, including new restrictions on agriculture and even hunting.

"Sen. Cornyn finds numerous aspects of Mr. Sunstein's record troubling, specifically the fact that he wants to establish legal 'rights' for livestock, wildlife and pets, which would enable animals to file lawsuits in American courts," the Republican's spokesman, Kevin McLaughlin, said in a statement to FOXNews.com.

In a 2007 speech at Harvard, Sunstein also advocated restricting animal testing for cosmetics, banning hunting and encouraging the general public to eat less meat.

Martosko said there are plenty of ways to pursue a "stealth campaign" on any one of these fronts -- guns or animal rights -- by putting pressure on the regulatory heads of the different agencies.

"He is the gatekeeper between the president and the secretaries," he said, noting that "as a regulatory czar, he won't be a judge or a legislator, so he cannot make laws. ... What he can do is nudge the departments in the direction of his philosophy," which is very much in line with "hard core animal rights zealots."

Colorado Attorney General Signs Amicus Brief Supporting Second Amendment Incorporation

Please Thank Attorney General John Suthers!

Two-thirds of the nation’s attorneys general have filed an amicus brief asking the U.S. Supreme Court to grant certiorari in the case of NRA v. Chicago and hold that the Second Amendment applies to state and local governments through the Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. This bi-partisan group of 33 attorneys general, along with the Attorney General of California in a separate filing, agrees with the NRA’s position that the Second Amendment protects a fundamental individual right to keep and bear arms, disagreeing with the decision recently issued by a three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.

Attorney General Suthers was one of the many who agrees that the Second Amendment is a fundamental individual right and signed the amicus brief. Please call Attorney General Suthers at (303) 866-4500 and thank him for standing up in support of the Second Amendment. You may also e-mail him at attorney.general@state.co.us.

Guns, God, words and crowds

Paul Danish, frequent speaker at the Pro Second Amendment Committee Awards banquet, pens an accurate and insightful essay pointing to the dangers that the American "Bill of Rights" protect for its citizens.

Guns are dangerous things. But the qualities that make guns dangerous are the same ones that empower people and make them free...

The kindergarten assertion that “sticks and stones can break my bones, but words can never hurt me” is demonstrable rubbish...

...there’s my obligation as a mother and a neighbor, not to mention my obligation to myself. Suffering martyrdom for a noble cause is one thing; allowing myself to be raped and killed in order to show compassion to violent criminals is another.

Quote from John Adams

The second day of July, 1776, will be the most memorable epoch in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever more.

Whoever said "Next they will come for our knives" was / is right!

Switchblade law opponents cut in Hill fight

This article from the WASHINGTON TIMES

Full article HERE

"Everyone from our first responders, law enforcement officials, Boy Scouts and hunters will be affected by this regulation," said Rep. Bob Latta, Ohio Republican, after the House Rules Committee rejected his bill to block the change. "It is unacceptable to think that we as citizens cannot carry a pocketknife for work or recreation purposes."

Critics of the regulation - including U.S. knife manufacturers and collectors, the National Rifle Association, sportsmen's groups and a bipartisan group of at least 79 House members - say it would rewrite U.S. law defining what constitutes a switchblade and potentially make de facto criminals of the estimated 35 million Americans who use folding knives.

The new knife rules proposed by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) would affect the interpretation of the Switchblade Knife Act of 1958 to include any spring-assisted or one-handed-opening knife.

The law defines a "switchblade" as any knife having a blade that opens automatically by hand pressure applied to a button or other device in the handle, or by operation of inertia or gravity.

Customs officials dismiss fears that the new language will outlaw ordinary pocketknives, saying the change was issued to clear up conflicting guidelines for border agents about what constitutes an illegal switchblade that cannot be imported into the United States. The rule could be imposed within 30 days if not blocked.

NRA Members Must Oppose Sotomayor

by Sandy Froman

Judge Sonia Sotomayor, President Barack Obama’s first nominee to the U.S. Supreme Court, has a narrow view of the Second Amendment that contradicts the Court’s landmark decision in District of Columbia v. Heller.

(snip)

[T]he Ranking Member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, pointed out that although her record on the issue is “fairly scant,” she has twice stated that the Second Amendment is not a fundamental right.

(snip)

The next question the Supreme Court will decide is whether the Second Amendment is a “fundamental right” that applies to cities and states, thus preventing them from restricting gun rights. Even the liberal Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals held earlier this year in Nordyke v. King that the Second Amendment is a fundamental right, yet Judge Sotomayor disagrees.

When Barack Obama nominated Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court, it belied his flowery rhetoric about respecting our constitutional gun rights. Out of almost 200 federal appeals judges in this country, Judge Sotomayor is one of only six to weigh in (after the Heller case) to hold that the Second Amendment only limits federal actions. If your state or city chooses to ban all guns or take away the ones that you already have in your home for hunting and self-defense, Sonia Sotomayor says the Constitution can’t help you.

Gun Rights Groups Plan State-By-State Revolt

Marbut, president of the Montana Shooting Sports Association, is one of the leaders of a new grassroots movement that's seeking to invoke the principle of states' rights -- including states' own authority to regulate firearms -- to thwart what he and his allies view as an increasingly overreaching federal government.

[snip]

This modern-day federalist revolt began with a Montana state law recently signed by Democratic Gov. Brian Schweitzer. It says that firearms, ammunition, and accessories manufactured entirely inside Montana are not subject to federal regulation, including background checks for buyers and record-keeping requirements for sellers. They would remain subject to state regulation.

[snip]

But a series of subsequent court cases have, in the eyes of the federal judiciary, narrowed the Tenth Amendment so it now has little legal force.

[snip]

The states "never gave the federal judiciary permission to erase the Tenth Amendment from the Constitution," Marbut said. "We need to reacquaint them with the Tenth Amendment."

Pastor Organizes Gun Celebration at Church (Thanks Gene)

Gun Control Advocates Oppose Pastor Ken Pagano's 'Open Carry Celebration'

By EMILY FRIEDMAN
June 5, 2009

Source of article HERE

A pastor in Kentucky is redefining the tradition of wearing your Sunday best to services by encouraging his congregation to strap on holsters and bring their weapons to church.

Pastor Ken Pagano has organized an "Open Carry Celebration" in late June where he encourages members of his Christian church to bring their handguns to services.

More PhotosPastor Ken Pagano of New Bethel Church in Louisville, Ky., says that he organized an "Open Carry Celebration" to promote responsible gun ownership.

"As a Christian pastor I believe that without a deep-seeded belief in God and firearms that this country would not be here," Pagano told ABCNews.com. "I'm not ashamed of that fact. I'm proud of it."

The celebration scheduled for Sunday, June 27, will feature YouTube videos promoting gun safety and will ask congregants to join in singing patriotic songs, according to Pagano.

A $1 raffle to win a free handgun will also be part of the festivities.

Wisconsin Lawmakers Consider Lowering Hunting Age to 10 (Thanks Jennifer)

In an effort to keep hunting alive in Wisconsin, state senators were scheduled to vote Tuesday on a bill that would allow children as young as 10 to hunt with a rifle.

[snip]

In Wisconsin, hunting is a $1.4 billion annual industry, with at least 600,000 deer hunting licenses sold each year, Holperin said.

"Hunting is a big deal in Wisconsin," he said. "A third of the state is forest land and the other two thirds are rural areas. The entire state is just good wildlife habitat — hunting is part of our culture in Wisconsin. I'm pretty confident [the bill] will pass."

If the state Senate passes the bill, it would then require approval from the Assembly and Gov. Jim Doyle.

Liberals ask how they lost gun, Guantanamo votes

Also Wednesday, the House voted overwhelmingly to join the Senate in letting people carry loaded guns in national parks and wildlife refuges. More than 100 House Democrats and 174 Republicans voted for the gun measure, which was attached to an Obama-backed bill imposing new restrictions on credit card companies.
Earlier this year, gun-rights supporters derailed a bill to give the District of Columbia voting rights in Congress by adding a provision that would repeal the city's strict gun regulations.
The gun votes were less surprising to many Democrats than were the Guantanamo developments. The NRA remains among the most powerful lobbies, and many lawmakers take care to stay off its political enemies list.
"People do not want to be on the wrong side of this particular cultural divide," said Rep. David Price, D-N.C., who supports tougher gun controls. "It's too bad there's not a more responsible national organization" to counteract the NRA, he said.
In some ways, the gun-control lobby is choking on Democratic success in congressional races. "The seats we're picking up come disproportionately from those more conservative areas," Price said, where linking the Democratic Party to gun control can be dangerous at re-election time.
Rep. Lynn Woolsey of California is another Democrat frustrated by the gun debate. When she asks colleagues why they don't support tougher restrictions, she said, they reply, "You just don't get it, Woolsey. You don't have our districts."
"It has to do with being afraid they'll lose their election if they stand up against guns," she said

Proposals on gun restrictions rev up rumor mill

So How much do you trust the Main Stream Media of which I am sure the Idaho Statesman is in league.

Fears that Obama wants new restrictions spark a run on firearms and ammo in the Valley.

Two months ago, an Illinois Democrat introduced a bill to prohibit gun ownership without a license nationwide. But experts -- and Idaho Congressman Walt Minnick -- say House Resolution 45 (the Blair Holt Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act) is a political statement, not a serious initiative that has any chance of passing.

Minnick, a conservative freshman Democrat, has broken with the Obama administration on budget and stimulus bills in his first two months in Congress. He said Obama will rein in Holder and other Cabinet members who have advocated stricter gun controls and the administration will soon deliver a more consistent message.

Ann Coulter his another one (way) out of the park.

Here are two paragraphs from the commentary!

To read the whole article (please do) Click on underlined text.

Liberals tolerate rallies on behalf of cop-killers, but they prohibit law-abiding citizens working at community centers in Binghamton, N.Y., from being armed to defend themselves from disturbed, crack-addicted America-haters like Jiverly Wong.

The demand for more gun control in response to any crime involving a gun is exactly like Obama's response to North Korea's openly belligerent act of launching a long-range missile this week: Obama leapt to action by calling for worldwide nuclear disarmament.

WOOPS I have to include this gem as well.

Fortunately, our sailors didn't wait around for Obama to save them when Somali pirates boarded their ship this week. Stop right now or I'll ask the U.N. to remind the "international community" that "the U.S. is not at war with Somali pirates."

IDPA April Match @ Whitewater

Shootists:

It appears we will not be shooting tomorrow April 4, 2009. The rain has come to haunt the safety conscious.
It would, in the opinion of many, be unsafe to slog around in the clayey mud that builds up on your shoes and other gear, so I am calling the game off.
In the event something changes by this evening, I will get back to you for an improbable re-start.
Sorry. Perhaps more of us could redouble our efforts in requesting the Man upstairs give us a decent day to shoot next month May 2, 2009.
Onc again, I would like all to start signing up no later than 8:30 so we can get in to the shooting. I expect we will have quite a few new shooters and the safety meeting may be a bit longer as this will be the first shoot of the year for APG IDPA Whitewater.
I just re-checked and there is a 60% chance of rain tomorrow - unfortunately, as we have many coming from the East, we have to call the game off.
I'll recontact you soon.

Keep paracticing, we have a great match planned.

This legislation would allow a concealed handgun permit holder to show an FFL (a gun dealer) -- or private seller at a gun show -- his or her permit and could then SKIP the Brady Registration check (sales through a dealer would still require the BATFE's 4473 form).

Yesterday on KCOL radio, sponsor Senator Greg Brophy (Rep. Steve King is the House sponsor) called this bill a simple "pre-approval" measure to buy a gun.

Though this bill was gutted in the House Judiciary weeks ago, Brophy managed to have the bill reinstated to it's original form, and the bill could pass the State Senate... but only if you act ASAP!

There is one danger: some law enforcement are claiming they need a statewide database of permit holders to administer this and to be able to verify that permits are real (that's ludicrous, since no one can even produce a case of a fake permit in Colorado).

It's vital we keep any amendments off of this bill.

We need a handful of Democrats to support this pro-gun legislation, so they need to hear from you.

Call these Senators and courteously ask them to support this common-sense legislation, House Bill 1180, without amendments:

Senator Morgan Carroll - 303-866-4879
Senator John Morse - 303-866-6364
Senator Chris Romer - 303-866-4852
Senator Gail Schwartz - 303-866-4871

Of course, it's worth your time to call your own State Senator, regardless of party, to urge his/her favorable vote.

You must act as soon as possible, though. Leaving a message with their office is fine, but make that call today!

SAF Sues Eric Holder over Gun Rights of Non-Resident American Citizens

Business Wire 2009
2009-03-30 23:11:03

The Second Amendment Foundation has filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia against Attorney General Eric Holder, seeking an injunction against enforcement of a federal law that makes it impossible for American citizens who reside outside the United States to purchase firearms while they are in this country.

SAF is joined by two natural-born citizens, Maxwell
Hodgkins and Stephen Dearth, who have been denied the opportunity to buy firearms because they do not currently reside in the United States

Gun and ammunition sales way up in Southern Colorado

Story By: Bill Folsom

A lot of the discussion is based on the president's involvement in stricter gun legislation in his home state of Illinois. Gun dealers think if an official plan from Washington surfaces there will be even more of a run and even higher prices.

A Gun Ban Gets Shot Down

Michael Isikoff
NEWSWEEK
From the magazine issue dated Apr 6, 2009

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is now the second member of President Obama's cabinet to get shot down by the White House over the politically sensitive issue of assault weapons. After meeting with Mexican President Felipe Calderón, Clinton said that reinstating the U.S. ban on assault weapons—which was passed in 1994 and expired in 2004—is one step this country could take to curb the flow of guns to Mexico's drug cartels.

Are You Hoarding Ammo?

by: Ross Kaminsky 03/31/2009

It’s not just a couple of stores seeing a run on guns and even more so on ammunition. From local gun shops to WalMart to sporting goods stores, the story is the same: When the store gets a shipment of ammo, particularly .45, 9mm, and .38 handgun ammunition, “people come in and they buy it all.”

Colorado is several months behind in processing concealed carry permits because of demand. Last month, it was reported that Florida “is buried under a backlog of 95,000 applications for concealed-weapons permits and it needs to hire a lot more people to handle the paperwork.” In Georgia, firearm permits were up 79% in 2008 over 2007. In Oklahoma, the number is around 90%. In Ohio, the number of concealed carry licenses issued in the 4th quarter of 2008 was 111% higher than the 4th quarter of 2007.

In his 2004 Senate campaign, Barack Obama said he would like to ban concealed carry permits. Now that Obama is President…“People are petrified…afraid for their rights that Obama is going to attack. And while Obama says he doesn’t support banning guns, a 500% tax would effectively be a financial ban on both guns and ammunition.

“Barack Obama is right about one thing. We are clinging to God and our guns, and I defy him to try to take either one from us.”

Colorado Weapons Permits Issued by County Sheriffs

In 2004 Colorado enacted Senate Bill 04-24, a law which established clear guidelines for the issuance of concealed weapon permits by sheriffs. One of the requirements of the law is that each sheriff submit an annual report to the legislature listing the number of permit application received, the number of permits issued, the number denied and the number revoked.

This is that report compiled by County Sheriffs of Colorado.

Justice Dept. Defends Bush Rule on Guns

But Interior Is Reviewing Measure, Which Allows Concealed Firearms in Parks

Washington Post Staff Writer
Tuesday, February 17, 2009; Page A03

It is our old Buddy Ken that is obstructing freedom in our country.

In its reply, the Justice Department wrote that the new rule "does not alter the environmental status quo, and will not have any significant impacts on public health and safety."

But Interior Secretary Ken Salazar has asked for an internal assessment of whether the measure has any environmental impacts the government needs to take into account, Interior spokesman Matt Lee-Ashley said yesterday.

Judge Blocks Rule Permitting Concealed Guns In U.S. Parks

Washington Post Staff Writers
Friday, March 20, 2009; Page A09

A federal judge yesterday blocked a last-minute rule enacted by President George W. Bush allowing visitors to national parks to carry concealed weapons.

U.S. District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly issued a preliminary injunction in a lawsuit brought by gun-control advocates and environmental groups. The Justice Department had sought to block the injunction against the controversial rule.

The three groups that brought the suit -- the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, the National Parks Conservation Association and the Coalition of National Park Service Retirees ...,

So much for freedom in these United States...Click anywhere in the article to go to the full article in the Washington Post.

Environmental Impact??? Someone has got to be kidding...But the Judge says:

She noted that the government justified its decision to forgo an environmental analysis on the grounds that the rule does not "authorize" environmental impacts. Calling this a "tautology," she wrote that officials "abdicated their Congressionally-mandated obligation" to evaluate environmental impacts and "ignored (without sufficient explanation) substantial information in the administrative record concerning environmental impacts" of the rule.

It won't be long until the anti-rights groups rule this land.

Rifle Colorado IDPA Match March 21-09

Shooters:

Spring is almost here - and will be by the time the March 21st IDPA Match gets underway this Saturday at the Rifle Sportsman's Club.
Some important particulars:
  • Sign-ups at 9:30 am; match starts at 10:00 am with a brief safety meeting.
  • Bring a concealment garment.
  • Four stages are planned with a $20.00 entry fee.
  • Be prepared to show proof of IDPA membership. (Does not apply to first-time shooters.)
But wait, there's more!
Per Match Director Terry Veldboom, an extra bay will be set up for the Classifier, and up to six shooters will be allowed to shoot for classification. Those shooting the Classifier will not be able to shoot the regular match, and will also pay the $20.00 fee. Terry will choose shooters "eligible" to shoot the Classifier based on either your likely ability to shoot at least a Marksman classification or likely ability to move up in your classification. (If you are not able to reasonably demonstrate a Marksman's level of proficiency, there is no reason to shoot the Classifier. You are essentially a Novice level shooter.)
By the way, you must be an IDPA member to shooter the Classifier!
If you would like to shoot the Classifier and need more information, feel free to call Terry at (970) 379-0237 or email him at terob3@sopris.net.
Best regards,
Ken Andrews

Gun Makers and Retailers Post Strong Sales Increases

Despite the weakest holiday season on record, outdoor-products retailer Cabela's turned in strong fourth-quarter sales, largely as a result of an increase in firearm and ammunition sales.

On the manufacturing side, publicly traded firearm manufacturers, such as Smith & Wesson and Sturm, Ruger & Co. are enjoying strong sales and relatively steadier stock prices. Smith & Wesson said aside from the 40% growth in pistol sales in its most recent quarter, tactical rifle sales soared 308%. Sturm, Ruger & Co. reported an 81% increase in firearms revenue. In a message on its website, Rock River Arms, which specializes in custom rifles and pistols, cites an "overwhelming increase in orders" in explaining why it can no longer provide estimated delivery dates, and notes that it is increasing production.

Is bill lying in wait to ban handguns?

Activists worry another Columbine will spark end of 2nd Amendment

By Drew Zahn
© 2009 WorldNetDaily

Rep. Bobby Rush, D-Ill.

Tucked away in committee on Capitol Hill is a firearm licensing bill that Second Amendment advocates worry may just be waiting for the right "Columbine moment" to emerge and effectively ban handguns in the U.S.

As WND reported, U.S. Rep. Bobby Rush, D-Ill., sponsored H.R. 45, an extensive licensure law that creates a national database of current firearm owners, requires psychiatric testing and fingerprinting to obtain a license and places new restrictions on gun use and storage.

Mike Hammond, legal advisor with Gun Owners of America, told WND that H.R. 45 gives the federal government so much power over gun ownership, that the wrong administration could use it to "bring gun ownership in America to an end."

"It takes semi-automatic firearms and handguns

NRA, Alaskans slam Obama assault weapons ban proposal

Attorney General Eric Holder says the assault weapons ban is needed again to stop weapons from flowing from US borders into Mexico. The country is currently plagued with such high drug cartel violence state department officials issued a travel warning Friday.

NRA Spokesperson Rachel Parsons, along with AK Machine Gun Association Club Pres. Dave Arieno, point to history. Both characterize as the previous ban as ineffective, and say brining it back would only hurt law-abiding citizens, including subsistence hunters.

Parsons says a new ban would affect guns used for sports shooting, hunting, and self defense, including rifles and handguns.

Hunters fire back over Basalt range

The gun enthusiasts sent a clear message to the Colorado Division of Wildlife that hours have been pared enough at the state-owned facility and that Basalt residents should learn to live with the noise or chip in funds to dampen the effect.

“It’s kind of a classic problem — we get new owners [moving in] and they’ve got a problem,” said Francis Krizmanich, an Old Snowmass resident who has used the shooting range for 23 years.

Midvalley resident Marty Schlumberger drew applause from the majority of the crowd when he said shooting range users have surrendered enough.“We don’t want to compromise any more. We want the hours to remain the same,” he said.

25-12-109. Exception - sport shooting ranges - legislative declaration.

(1) The general assembly hereby finds, determines, and declares that the imposition of inconsistent, outdated, and unnecessary noise restrictions on qualifying sport shooting ranges that meet specific, designated qualifications work to the detriment of the public health, welfare, and morale as well as to the detriment of the economic well-being of the state. The general assembly further finds, determines, and declares that a need exists for statewide uniformity with respect to exempting qualifying shooting ranges from the enforcement of laws, ordinances, rules, and orders regulating noise. As the gain associated with having a uniform statewide exemption for qualifying sport shooting ranges outweighs any gains associated with enforcing noise regulations against such ranges, the general assembly further declares that the provisions of this section, as enacted, are a matter of statewide concern and preempt any provisions of any law, ordinance, rule, or order to the contrary.
(2) As used in this section, unless the context otherwise requires:
(a) "Local government" means any county, city, city and county, town, or any governmental entity, board, council, or committee operating under the authority of any county, city, city and county, or town.
(b) "Local government official" means any elected, appointed, or employed individual or group of individuals acting on behalf of or exercising the authority of any local government.
(c) "Person" means an individual, proprietorship, partnership, corporation, club, or other legal entity.
(d) "Qualifying sport shooting range" or "qualifying range" means any public or private establishment, whether operating for profit or not for profit, that operates an area for the discharge or other use of firearms or other equipment for silhouette, skeet, trap, black powder, target, self-defense, recreational or competitive shooting, or professional training.
(3) Notwithstanding any other law or municipal or county ordinance, rule, or order regulating noise to the contrary:
(a) A local governmental official may not commence a civil action nor seek a criminal penalty against a qualifying sport shooting range or its owners or operators on the grounds of noise emanating from such range that results from the normal operation or use of the qualifying shooting range except upon a written complaint from a resident of the jurisdiction in which the range is located. The complaint shall state the name and address of the complainant, how long the complainant has resided at the address indicated, the times and dates on which the alleged excessive noise occurred, and such other information as the local government may require. The local government shall not proceed to seek a criminal penalty or pursue a civil action against a qualifying sport shooting range on the basis of such a noise complaint if the complainant established residence within the jurisdiction after January 1, 1985.
(b) No person may bring any suit in law or equity or any other claim for relief against a qualifying sport shooting range located in the vicinity of the person's property or against the owners or operators of such range on the grounds of noise emanating from the range if:
(I) The qualifying range was established before the person acquired the property;
(II) The qualifying range complies with all laws, ordinances, rules, or orders regulating noise that applied to the range and its operation at the time of its construction or initial operation;
(III) No law, ordinance, rule, or order regulating noise applied to the qualifying range at the time of its construction or initial operation.

Gun dealers experiencing shortages of bullets

Selling bullets may be the most secure job in Florida as long as supplies last.

After months of heavy buying, gun dealers across the state are experiencing shortages.

Some say it began with the election of President Barack Obama. Others say it's about the economic downturn or fear of crime. Whatever the reasons, ammunition has been selling like plywood and bottled water in the days before a hurricane.

HR 45 -- Gun Rights Licensing Test

NRA ILA

It is coming--the anti-rights crowd are taking no prisoners and will stop at no thing in order to reduce you to the level of a subject of an intolerant socialist government.

Illinois congressman Bobby Rush, from Obama's home state and with a voting record on gun ownership as bad as Obama's, introduced a bill on the first day of the 111th Congress that shows what we can expect.

HR 45 has an innocent-looking line that says 'strike the second sentence of 18 USC 926(a)'. That's the line that says the federal government cannot make a central registry of gun owners.
The anti-rights people have to repeal that line, because Bobby's bill flat-out creates a central gun registry. Every gun owner must be registered to keep on possessing the guns they already own, and any transfer of any kind must be registered as well.

Colorado Senate Bill 8

Wednesday, 28 January 2009

Republican efforts to extend to the workplace the same rights Colorado citizens already have to protect their homes from violent intruders were stymied by ruling Democrats today.

Senate Bill 8, sponsored by the GOP’s Sen. Ted Harvey, of Highlands Ranch, and Republican Rep. Cory Gardner, of Yuma, would have provided immunity to an owner, manager or employee who needs to use deadly force to protect himself in a workplace. Sponsors said that the bill was intended to spare the likes of mom-and-pop shopkeepers from malicious prosecution if they defend themselves at work.

The current law protecting homeowners' use of deadly force is referred to as the "Make my day" law--after the old Clint Eastwood movie line--prompting advocates of the law's expansion to dub their proposal, "Make my day better."

“They barely asked any questions of the witnesses today before unanimously voting against the bill,” Harvey said after the party-line vote in committee. “I wish they would have at least given an explanation about why they voted the way they did.”

Gardner feared the potential chilling effect of today’s vote.

“The last thing people should be worrying about when trying to defend themselves from violent attacks at work is whether some district attorney is going to second-guess their decision,” Gardner said. “This is about protecting the real victims.”

Harvey believes that the United States Supreme Court Heller decision, which affirmed that the right to bear arms is an individual right, strengthened the case for the bill, and he said he was disappointed with the way the Democratic committee members treated the hearing.

Harvey said that even though this version of the bill is dead, he sees this battle being fought again.

“I don’t think this is the last we’ll be hearing about this issue,” he said. “Coloradans believe in the 2nd Amendment and don’t want be made to feel guilty about protecting themselves from violence at work.”

Concealed Carry Permits Are Life Savers

This article appears at Human Events dot Com. I put it here to help get the word out!

The right to bear arms is more than a Constitutional right: every human being has the natural unalienable right to self-defense. Cicero said 2,000 years ago, “If our lives are endangered by plots or violence or armed robbers or enemies, any and every method of protecting ourselves is morally right.”

The U.S. Constitution, the constitutions of 44 states, common law, and the laws of all 50 states recognize the right to use arms in self-defense. Right to carry laws respect the right to self-defense by allowing individuals to carry concealed firearms for their own protection.

So many liberal politicians and self-appointed experts want to keep honest Americans from having access to firearms, even though, since 2003, in states which allow concealed carry, violent crime rates have been lower than anytime since the mid-1970s.

'gun salesman of year'

From: The Deseret News

What do you get when you add a faltering economy with Obama change?

Increased gun sales, for one thing.

Ever since Barack Obama was elected president in early November, Americans have been stocking up on guns and ammunition in unprecedented numbers.

Speculation is that the increased sales are driven by a
nervous populace

The numbers at "Get Some" reflect statistics recently released by the FBI that show that background checks for prospective gun buyers nationally went up dramatically over the last quarter of 2008. The number of requests climbed 42 percent from November 2007 compared to November 2008 and 24 percent from December 2007 compared to December 2008

Link to full article

There are reasonable concerns that Obama and the merry crew of Democrats now in Washington will try to limit the citizen's rights to gun ownership.

The main reasons people are buying guns is they no longer trust their government and are preparing for racial or civil war. Like it or not, that's the truth.

Brady's current plans

The Second Amendment makes ALL the others possible.......

01/08/2009
By Alan Korwin

Slipping below the radar (or under the short-term memory cap), the Democrats have already leaked a gun-ban list, even under the Bush administration when they knew full well it had no chance of passage (HR 1022, 110th Congress). It serves as a framework for the new list the Bradys plan to introduce shortly.

I have an outline of the Brady's current plans and targets of opportunity, I'm working on getting that news out asap after these ban lists, probably be ready in the next few days. It's horrific. They're going after the courts, regulatory agencies, firearms dealers and statutes in an all out effort to restrict we the people. They've made little mention of criminals.

Now more than ever, attention to the entire Bill of Rights is critical. Gun bans will impact our freedoms under search and seizure, due process, confiscated property, states rights, free speech, right to assemble and more, in addition to the Second Amendment.

U.S. allows guns in national parks

A closer look
The rule change: Starting Friday, holders of concealed-handgun permits may carry concealed weapons in sites administered by the National Park Service. The Interior Department overturned a rule restricting loaded guns in most national parks, making park gun laws coincide with state gun laws. Those with concealed-handgun permits will no longer have to unload and dismantle their guns when they visit a national park. The rule doesn’t change anything in states where concealed handguns are not allowed — Illinois and Wisconsin — and still doesn’t allow long guns into national parks.

While visitors with concealed-handgun permits can have loaded weapons in the parks, they cannot take them into federal facilities, including visitor centers.
